In essence, a guarantor is a person or a service that takes on the responsibility of assuring the property management groups that the student's rent for their student housing will be paid on time. If the student fails to do so, the guarantor is obligated to cover the unpaid rent. To formalise this commitment, a copy of the online tenancy agreement is sent to both the student and the guarantor, which both parties need to sign and accept. Remember, your booking for the student accommodation is not considered complete until the guarantor formally accepts the terms outlined in the tenancy agreement.
Note: Please refer to this article to learn how a guarantor is different from a co-signer.
